Dr. David Warner Memorial Bell

In December 2021, we lost a cherished neuro-anesthesiologist and a beloved member of SNACC, David S. Warner, MD, a distinguished professor of anesthesiology at Duke University. An eminent leader in our field, Dr. Warner was one of the world’s most respected neuro-anesthesiologists and described as a beacon of integrity. He will be remembered as an extraordinary but humble academician, physician, scientist, and mentor who dedicated his career to training the next generation of anesthesiologists and neuroscientists, and to multidisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Warner’s life’s work was focused on understanding the biology of acute central nervous system (CNS) injury, with a specific focus on the development of preclinical models of human disease and the development of therapeutics. Dr. Warner was an ardent advocate for anesthesiologist-scientists in general, and neuro-anesthesiologist/neuroscientists in particular. He felt strongly that anesthesiology science should not simply be the study of anesthetic drugs, but rather should be defined by the full spectrum of scientific interests (and limited only by the imagination) of anesthesiologists.

At numerous academic events, Dr. Warner used a bell to signal that it was time to move to the next poster. In his honor, SNACC has purchased the Dr. David Warner Memorial Bell.

When you hear the bell it means the session will begin momentarily; please take your seat in the session room.
